Ecotourism and Sustainable Development

Abstract
This article aims to assess the role of ecotourism in the sustainable development of a region. Based on goals and targets set by the United Nations, we analyze certain doctrinal concepts related to tourism, its segments and sustainability, comparing them with the Brazilian reality. Finally, it underpins the role of the Federal Court of Accounts as an agent capable of contributing to the promotion of sustainable development by fostering public policies for ecotourism, according to work on ecotourism in the North recently judged and verified by this Court.

Paulo Henrique Castro G. de Arruda
is a public servant of the Brazilian Court of Accounts. He has a Bachelor of Law from the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam) and in Economics from the Amazonas University Center of Higher Education (Ciesa). He has a degree in Specialist in Public Law from the University South of Santa Catarina (Unisul).
Saulo Maurício Silva Lobo
is a public servant of the Brazilian Court of Accounts. He has a Bachelor of Law from the Amazonas State University (UEA ) and is a specialist in Constitutional Law from the AVM Faculdade Integrada.
