From de Beijing Platform to institutional pratice : gender mainstreaming, auditing, and good governance
Abstract
In the interview granted to RTCU, Maluleke highlights the relevance of the Beijing Platform for Action as a fundamental normative landmark for the promotion of gender equality and maintains that Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) play a central role in achieving this goal. To this end, she advocates for the use of gender-responsive audits; the qualified evaluation of public policies; the promotion of gender-responsive budgeting; and the strengthening of government transparency and accountability mechanisms. Furthermore, she addresses the importance of international cooperation among Global South countries for the institutional development of SAIs; the challenges faced by women in leadership positions; the role of men as allies in promoting equity; and the transformative potential of audits as instruments for social change. The interview concludes with an inspiring message directed at women, encouraging perseverance, confidence, and a commitment to paving the way for future generations.

Ms. Tsakani Maluleke
She was a member of the Presidential Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) and served as a nonexecutive member of the Financial Advisory & Intermediary Services (FAIS) Ombudsman Committee. She chaired the Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants of Southern Africa (ABASA) and served as nonexecutive chairperson of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). She has experience as a chartered accountant in both the public and private sectors and currently serves as Auditor-General of South Africa.
